Good and adequate sleep is necessity of your body for physical as well as mental health. In fact during sleep your body restores. Sleep is involved in healing your body. Sleep deficiency can result in serious complications. In our busy life we even not get enough time to sleep well. Some people when go to bed for sleep all tensions and problems of a long day drives back to mind and they do not a sleep. While keeping in mind all these problems scientists have introduced the 4-7-8 Breathing Technique which could be very much helpful in getting the early sleep, and waking up with fresh mind and body. It is a technique which actually will help you to be relaxed when you are on your bed for sleep. Actually through this technique you would able to pattern your breath, through which you can achieve a peaceful mind.

It is a very simple and easy technique which requires no special equipments or else; but yourself. It is a specific breathing pattern developed by Dr. Andrew Weil

How To Perform???

Don’t worry…. It’s very simple. Follow these steps……

  1. Inhale slowly through nose for 4 seconds.
  2. Then hold your breath for 7 seconds.
  3. Exhale slowly for 8 seconds through mouth.

When releasing your breath blow from your mouth slowly. While inhaling keep your mouth close. When exhaling blow out from your mouth.

Do remember that when releasing the breath also try to relax the muscles of your jaws, neck and the whole body. Also try to release all the tensions you have.


It is important to maintain the ratio 4:7:8. It is a specific ratio which should be maintained. At initial stage it may be difficult for you to maintain this but you have to try until you achieve this. This technique will make your body and nervous system relaxed and strong.

Try this and you will surely get good sleep in less time and ultimately wakeup with fresh body and mind.
